THE LINCOLN & GRIMSBY DISTRICT SEPTEMBER 2008 SYNOD REPORT
Synod met in the newly refurbished premises at Louth Methodist Church on Saturday 13th September 2008 and the Superintendent Minister of the Louth Circuit, Rev. David Newlove, opened our session in worship.
The Chair of District, Rev. Dr David Perry, welcomed new ministers and members of Synod. Amongst the business, Synod gave its support to the Agricultural Chaplaincy, having the opportunity to hear the up-to-date position for the local farming community from the Chaplain, Rev. Canon Alan Robson.
Conference decisions were reported, along with delegates’ responses to the experience of the occasion. The district has applied to be a part of the Youth Participation Strategy and the Pioneering Ministries Scheme, but as yet we have not heard whether this has been successful. Rev. David Leese spoke about the decisions on human sexuality, the Heritage Fund and the progress towards removing restrictions to make it possible to offer Methodist premises for local businesses. The Chair brought his own Conference disappointments and enthusiasms, including the Notice of Motion about the global food crisis, brought by our district.
A presentation by Kelvin Green was given about the rebranding of NCH, as of 18th September ‘Action for Children’, outlining the reasons for this and the certainty of respecting the heritage of NCH and its Methodist connections.
Rev. Liz Childs reported the results of the ‘Mapping the Way Forward’ process, showing both the problems and the opportunities, the positive and the negative. The final question was: Where Do we go from here? There is no blueprint and circuits know that they will need to take the process forward as they consult with one another and look to where God’s mission can be taken further.
The Chair closed our proceedings through a moving DVD, with music, images and facts about the challenges of our age and our world.
