A thought for the day

A thought for the day: ‘The best of all, God is with us.’

Last weekend I went on a Walk to Emmaus weekend. This is a three day ‘retreat’ which focuses on the love of God and helps participants to put God back on the map of their lives. I say ‘back’ because WE is for Christians to grow in discipleship, it is not an evangelistic tool.

So often our church work drags us, due to hard work and stressful circumstances, into a practical atheism – we speak, think and especially behave, as though there were no God. We almost act in a way that appears to say it is all about us: our effort; our actions; our hard work.
We make our plans and ask God’s blessing on them – reflected very often in the short prayers preceding and closing our meetings.

To put God back onto the map of our lives might make life feel very different.
To ask where God is at work, to wait on him, to read his Word and expect to be inspired and receive inspiration would be to discover what God is doing and to join in.
How much easier it is to ‘go with the flow’ than to swim against the tide.
If we are to see mission flourish, lives transformed by the HS and new followers of Jesus made – not to mention a transformation of our communities – we will not do it without putting God back on the map of our lives and seeing things with him at the centre.

So how about it? What would it feel like to put God at the centre of all we are and do, to see ourselves, the church, our community, our nation and our world with the realisation that God is there? How might this alter our perception of our lives, our work and the church?

Lord, remind us that: best of all, you are with us. Help us to place you on the map of our lives and the life of our church, that we may see you at work, hear your guiding voice and see your Kingdom come. Amen.
