District Development Enabler (DDE)
Lorna Valentine
Mrs Lorna valentine has recently been appointed as District Development enabler and writes the following as a way of introduction
June 2011
Following my appointment to the post of District Development Enabler from April 2011, I am now getting to know my way around the district and am enjoying continuing to meet new people as we work together. Just as a bit of background, I have taken up this position following on from Chris Jones and it is a post that is funded by the Connexion for a further 2 years. I work 17.5 hours a week (I try to keep Mondays free for family) and so have been given certain priorities in my job description which you may find useful.
These priorities are to work with the appropriate people and meetings on the delivery of district initiatives specifically:
• Working with the Youth Team to establish an on-going policy for working with under 30s within the District and engaging in implementation and support to volunteers in this field.
• Work with the Local Preachers Worship and Strategy Group in delivering the District Local Preachers’ course and its future effectiveness.
• Working with Circuit Leadership Teams to encourage collaborative ministry and increase effectiveness of their ministry.
• Work with the District Safeguarding Team in implementing District policies at District and circuit level
I am also tasked, along with others, to enable us to keep developing for mission as Churches, Circuits and as a District and to work with circuits on their post review development. There are many forms that support and enabling can take on and there are a number of district initiatives and events I am getting involved in. Crucially though, my experience is that the best people to know how I can be of help and support following the fantastic work done regarding Reshaping for Mission are those who engaged with that and are therefore continuing to seek what it means to be 21st century Christians at home, work, in Church and in the wider community. So, please feel free to contact me (details are below) if you think I can be of help and support in your situation or simply to share your successes and challenges. I certainly will not have all of the answers all of the time, but I will always do my best to find them or to point you in the right direction.
As part of my induction process, I will be looking to spend time in the Circuits, to keep meeting new people, build relationships and be part of a continuing process of development for us all.
I look forward to meeting you,
Lorna

The M:Guides
The M:Guides are a series of study materials primary for use by small groups. They can be downloaded and used by small groups in your church.
- Other Voices 1 and Other Voices 2 explore some the questions raised through Our Calling by means of reflection on contemporary Christian writings.
- Lost in Space? explores mission within a plural society.
- Worship seeks to enable reflection on aspects of worship and our own experience of it
- Priorities for The Methodist Church is a series of Bible studies based around passages from the Acts of The Apostles encouraging discussion and reflection on the Priorities.
The Missing Generation
- This is a challenging report on conversations which were had with people in the age-group 25-40 - the so called Missing Generation - who are still within the Church. It raises serious issues for churches who want o engage with meaningfully with that age group.
Let me know how you get on using these resources and if you have any questions or issues you want to follow up.
