A modern day image of the famous engraving of John Wesley preaching on his father's tomb , at an open air Service held at St Andrew's Church Epworth on Sunday 18th May after the dedication of the New Wesley Statue in Epworth , Rev David Perry Chairman of the Lincoln & Grimsby District was invited to Preach on Samuel Wesley's tomb (not forced to as John was when he was refused access by the Rector to St Andrew's).David had prepared for the Service ,but as he stood on the tomb during the last verse of a hymn, he knew in his heart that he could not preach the sermon prepared. God and Wesley spoke through David and looking around the Congregation, many were moved to tears by his words, as no doubt many who heard John Wesley were.It was a truly historic occasion and I am sure will live in the hearts and memories of many who were there.
