Report from David Greet October 2009
Dear friends
It's been just over a year since I started my role as family worker in the circuit and I'm taking this oppertunity to let you know
what I have doing with my time. Over the first year I have spent much of my time trying to get to know people within each church, I have also tried to meet as many people who come onto church premises as well.
Each of the Churches has a couple of areas in which I have been focusing and these are described in the following paragraphs.
At St Christopher's we have looked to the perschool that meet on the premises as one of focuses. We have set up a coffee morning every Tuesday morning for those perents or guardians who come to pick up their children. This coffee morning has been set up to provide a link between
the Chruch and the per-school groups' parents. We offer drinks, biscuits and a friendly atmosphere. this has had a limited success so far but we do have three regulars who enjoy the time they spend with us.
We are also looking to bring the families of all the people who come to the church together. We started doing this in September. We provided fun and games in a local park for the families of people who use the church. We are advertised through the various activities that happen on the premises ( Youth organisations, youth groups and holiday clubs).
At Scartho we have set a new form of monthly worship, Messy Church. This offers the whole family a space in which to worship God together. Activities include Singing, stories, crafts and games. This event is not a drop off event as well all young people are accompanied by adults. This event has been taken over by two people from the church as we look for it to grow in the future.
When I arrived there was no toddler group at Scartho but there had been one run at Scartho in the past. The aim for this toddler group is to include Christian activities including songs and stories.
At St Andrew's we have been looking for ways to provide more for the youth. Every Friday they run a drop in centre where young people can come
and play games. We have looked to build a youth group on a Sunday night for the young people who are interested in finding out more about God. This is still in the early stages and we hope it will grow through this aurtumn term.
In Trinity Methodist Immingham we have looked at two areas where there is very little in the form of church presence. C.A.T.S is a toddlers group that is well established. There are 20 - 30 children each week. As I arrived the leader was trying to start regular pram services which we have continued over this past year for the major Christian festivals.
The Thursday Youth Group is a youth group and is aimed at Primary School age children and runs every Thursday night during term time. there is little or on Christian input into the group anf it mainly not structured. Over the next year we will be looking at how we can bring all the weekly activities together.
I am very excited by the future and am looking forward to the work increasing within the four churches.
