Campaigner Meets Prime Minister
Human rights campaigner Francis Njuakom Nchii has received an award for his work from Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Francis, the director of one of our partner organisations, was named winner of the Sheila McKechnie Foundation's International Award at a Downing Street ceremony. Francis works with the elderly in rural Cameroon, many of whom survive on less than a dollar a day.

God's concern for the poor
The story of Ruth gleaning in the field may appear to have little relevance to modern society. But, as this year's Harvest pack, Reclaim Harvest, shows, we can learn a lot about God's attitude towards the poor. Reclaim Harvest uses this story and examples of MRDF's work in Ethiopia to illustrate how generous giving can empower people living in challenging situations to reclaim their lives. The pack also includes a quiz, children's activities and Harvest Supper ideas.

Lives changed by simple action
During the rainy season, Kousoula, in Mali, is totally cut off from the mainland, where the nearest market is. When food supplies run out, hungry villagers would have to walk for miles to buy food. The situation was exacerbated by the cost of grain - traders increased their prices as demand exceeded supply. MRDF's support has enabled a cereal bank to be built on the island. Prices are kept low because stocks are purchased after harvest. Now, when the rains come, the locals no longer have to worry about feeding their families.

Dear Prime Minister...
MRDF has joined other members of the Stop Climate Chaos coalition in calling on Gordon Brown to invest in renewable energy. This comes as the Prime Minister decides whether to give the go-ahead for new coal-fired power stations that do not have the means to capture and store carbon dioxide emissions. Our overseas partners are already feeling the devastating effects of climate change. Add your name to a letter asking the Prime Minister to ensure that Britain has a green future.
