Starter:
Share in pairs one of your significant experiences of conflict in your life. How was it resolved?
Reading: John 10:27-30.
Read the passage aloud again then re-read it silently along with the commentary. Reflect on the personal questions individually before sharing your thoughts in groups of three.
Commentary:
Jesus talks of the unbreakable relationship between himself and his sheep. They respond only to his voice, like sheep to a shepherd. He knows them and loves them; they follow Him. God has given them to Jesus and there is no snatching them out of God’s hand.
Personal Reflection:
1. What thoughts come to mind as you read these verses?
What might God be saying to you?
2. Do you listen for his voice?
How do you recognise the voice of Jesus within yourself or other people?
3. How do you deal with times of significant conflict in your life?
4. How do the words of Jesus ‘no one can snatch them away from me’ help your sense of belonging to the Body of Christ?
Now discuss the following questions together.
Life Focus: Is there new anything we could do in the group time to help us a) feel we belong
b) hear Jesus speak to us.
Prayer:
This time could be used to listen to the voice of God individually.
Perhaps some quiet instrumental music would offer an atmosphere in which to hear God speak.
