Bible Reflections 64
Safe in the prayer of Jesus – John 17: 6-19
Share a story with one other person:
Describe a time when you felt lost,
physically or emotionally. How did you become 'unlost'?
Spend some time in worship:
If possible include some reflection on
God's love for the lost.
Read John 17: 6-19 aloud and then allow
time for all to re-read it along with this
commentary and the personal focus
questions:
During his life, Jesus revealed to his
followers what God was like. He taught
them by his words and deeds, and they
were faithful to him. Jesus kept them
from departing from the truth and from
losing their way. As he prepares to return
to the Father, he asks the Father
to keep them faithful to the truth and to
witness to all that Jesus said and did.
Believers are to continue the words and
works of Jesus and he prays that they
may be as united in this as he is with
the Father. This unity of the disciples
with each other will be the way the
world will come to believe.
Personal reflection:
1. What thoughts come to mind as
you read this passage? What do
you think God might be saying
to you?
2. When have you known yourself
being 'kept safe' by Jesus
through the experience of the
loving care of other disciples?
|
3. What could God be asking of
you that your fellowship might
present a more united face to
the world?
When you have reflected alone,
share together in threes.

When your discussion is
complete, or time is up come back
together as one group and share
any insights individuals wish to share
(try not to 'redo' the discussion)
Now explore this Life focus question
as a whole group:
What are the values and truths to
which we are called to be faithful as
a united group of disciples?
How can we show these values
to the world?
Recall anything from last time
that needs attention.
Spend the last 15 minutes doing
what Jesus did – praying.
Share concerns for prayer and PRAY.
