Bible Reflections 66
The Holy Spirit makes the difference – John 16 : 4b-15
Share a story with one other person:
Describe a time when you have
experienced 'every cloud has
a silver lining'.
Spend some time in worship:
Perhaps focus on the Holy Spirit
Read John 16:4b-15 aloud and then
allow time to re-read it along with the
commentary and the personal focus
questions:
In his last moments with his disciples
Jesus warned them about persecution
(v2), told them where, when and why
he was going, and assured them that
they would not be left alone, the Spirit
would come. He did not want his
disciples faith to be shaken or
destroyed.. Jesus speaks of three
important tasks of the Holy Spirit:
convicting the world of its sin and calling
it to repentance; revealing God's
standards of righteousness to believers;
demonstrating Christ's judgement over
satan.
Personal reflection:
1. What thoughts come to mind as
you read this passage? What do
you think God might be saying
to you?
2. When and how have you
experienced the Holy Spirit as
'Helper' in your life?
3. How has the Holy Spirit carried
out the tasks Jesus spoke of
(see commentary) in your
Christian walk so far? In what
ways do you hinder these tasks?
|
When you have reflected alone,
share together in threes.

When your discussion is
complete, or time is up come back
together as one group and share
any insights individuals wish to share
Now explore this Life focus question
as a whole group:
How can our church/SCC give
greater freedom to the work of the
Holy Spirit in its midst?
Are we brave enough to do so?
Review:
Is there anything you could do
differently next time which will allow
the Holy Spirit more freedom?
Recall anything from last time
that needs attention.
Spend the last 15 minutes allowing the
Holy Spirit to lead you in prayer.
Fix date and venue of next meeting
