Bible Reflections 68
Be born again –John 3:1-17
Share your view with one other person:

Will the birth of Leo Blair help Tony
to be 'born again' as a
popular Prime Minister?
Spend some time in worship:
Maybe include a testimony.
Read John 3:1-17 aloud and then allow
time to re-read it along with the
commentary and the personal focus
questions:
Nicodemus was an 'undercover' believer.
He wanted to learn from Jesus, but not
to be seen. He probably got more than
he expected – a challenge to a new life.
As his story unfolds we discover (Jn
7:50-52; 19:39, 40) he is a changed
man who eventually comes out of the
closet to ask for the body of Jesus.
Being born of the Spirit can change the
most unlikely characters. The Spirit
works in them in ways we cannot
predict or understand.
Personal focus:
1. What thoughts come to mind as
you read this passage? What do
you think God might be saying
to you?
|
2. When and how did you know
you had been born again?
3. In what ways have you been
surprised by the Spirit at work
in your life?
When you have reflected alone,
share together in threes.
When your discussion is
complete, or time is up come back
together as one group and share
any insights individuals wish to share
Now explore this Life focus question
as a whole group:
Does the world see Christ as judge
or as saviour?
How can our church follow Christ's
lead in offering salvation rather
than judgement to the world?
Review:
Is there anything you could do
differently next time?
Recall anything from last time
that needs attention.
Spend the last 15 minutes sharing
prayer concerns and praying together,
especially for any 'Nicodemus's' who are
showing signs of interest in Jesus Christ.
