We regret to announce that the Friends Day due to take place on Saturday 25th May 2013 has been cancelled due to low numbers of bookings. However there is still much to do in Epworth over that weekend. Friday 24th May - there is a rally at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church to celebrate Wesley Day (this year it is the 275th anniversary of John Wesley's conversion experience). Throughout the weekend there are events at various venues in Epworth - music, dance, art, performances - for the Arts Festival. We would be glad to hear from Friends of Epworth Old Rectory about other events you might be interested in in the future.
The Wesley Historical Society returns to its roots in 2013 to celebrate the 120th anniversary of its foundation in 1893 with a full programme of activities at Epworth, Details of the Day
I want to draw your attention to a number of other significant events, though not in chronological order.
At the request of the circuit stewards we have agreed to hold a forum for Circuit Leadership Teams. This will take place on Saturday 12 October. This is so that we can focus our thoughts on Toward a 2020 Vision. A huge amount of work has been done by District Officers in consulting others and considering the possibilities for us as a District. Synod never affords us sufficient time to do justice to such work and we are now setting time aside to wrestle with the priorities and feasibility of T2020V. The venue is yet to be agreed but is likely to be 10am till 3pm.
I am really pleased that folk are already booking for Insight, the monthly prayer, study and reflection mornings at San Damiano’s, Metheringham. There are still spaces but they are limited so if you or folk within the circuit want to come along then please get in touch with Alison.
Churches Together are organising ‘equip’ an exciting Christian resource day at the showground on Saturday 14 September; as well as stands bursting with ideas there will also be seminars to help us in our mission and ministry. Look out for the posters and details.
Bishop Christopher has kindly accepted my invitation to be our guest preacher at our next Presbyteral Synod which will be on Tuesday 12 November. He and I are keen to work more closely together in ensuring we continue to develop the work of God across the county.
While on ecumenism there is to be a prayer pilgrimage across Lincolnshire in 2014 and we hope that more details will be available shortly; in the meantime please remember the planning in your devotions.
Also in late 2014 or early 2015 I will be leading a devotional pilgrimage to the Holy Land. This will be a wonderful opportunity for those who have not seen at first hand the places Jesus frequented or indeed for those who have but want to experience more. More information will be available by the September Synod. I have led pilgrimages in the past plus a ministers’ study tour and I know that for many it will be the experience of a lifetime; I am very much looking forward to sharing in that venture.
These are exciting and demanding times for the Church
across our nation, no less so in this wonderful county. As I travel round the circuits I sense a
deepening confidence and growing expectation despite the challenges we
face.
